Acquisition of Digital Planet Communications by Upstack, a telecommunications and technology company

  • The rapidly growing platform that brings together industry-leading consultants, advanced technology and dedicated customer support resources today announced Digital Planet Communications Inc., a telecommunications and technology agency based in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Founded in 2001, Digital Planet provides voice, data, cloud, mobility, and IT procurement to support small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), mid-market, and enterprise customers. The institution specializes in UCaaS, CCaaS, SD-WAN, security, traditional voice and internet solutions.

Digital Planet serves companies in all industries specializing in healthcare, insurance and finance. As part of the investment, Sean Schmidt, President of Digital Planet, will join UPSTACK as a partner and managing director. Vice Presidents Brent Killen and Jonathan Watkins will join UPTACK as partners.

As the company’s revenue increased, Digital Planet management began looking at partnership opportunities to take the business to the next level. “We have done a great job growing the organization over the last few years,” he said.

The company was one of the first to work with telephony resellers to help sell phone systems through network service savings, eventually acquiring several telephony resellers of its own. Digital Planet was also an early adopter of cloud communications. This allows us to centralize support and serve our distributed business more efficiently.
