Microsoft said on Tuesday that it was looking into problems with its collaboration suite Teams and email service Outlook as users around the world struggled to access their emails. This is the second such disruption to Microsoft’s online services in less than two weeks.
“Users primarily in the North American region attempting to access Outlook.com may be unable to send, receive, or search email,” Microsoft wrote on its service status page. “Additional functionality consumed by other services such as Microsoft Teams, such as the calendar, would also be impacted.”
The outage, which began around 4:04 a.m. GMT on Tuesday, is now affecting users outside of North America, according to the company. While Microsoft did not specify which regions were affected outside of North America, customers from India, the United Kingdom, Israel, and Austria were among those who complained about the outage on Twitter.
“Users in additional regions outside of North America may experience some residual impact as a result of the affected portions of infrastructure in North America,” Microsoft wrote on its service status page.
The company said it was investigating the outage and was performing targeted restart operations on the “primarily affected infrastructure in North America in order to restore service availability.”
However, Microsoft stated that users in other regions should gradually see improvements.
On Twitter, the company said it had applied targeted mitigation to the infrastructure and that early validation indicated recovery. The company stated that it is looking into alternative solutions to provide relief and will provide an update on the situation on its service status page soon.
Microsoft had to investigate a global outage last month that affected products and services such as Microsoft Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, and OneDrive for Business, as well as Teams and Outlook.
