  • The Jamestown Public School District plans to construct a 7,000-square-foot addition to the James Valley Career and Technology Center, with construction expected to start in spring 2024 and completion required by 2025.
  • The estimated project cost has increased to $2.2 million after inflation, causing officials to explore the best use of funding, but the school district remains committed to the project.
  • The addition will be used by the building trades program to build lake cabins and house ambulances for training students and providing public service in northeast Jamestown, offering valuable hands-on experience for students and benefiting the community.

In a recent development related to the Jamestown Valley Career and Technology Center (JVCTC) project, the authorities are exploring ways to optimize the utilization of funds set aside for the project.

According to sources, the Jamestown Public School District Board held a special meeting on Monday to discuss the issue of budget and funding for the JVCTC project. The discussion centered around finding a balance between what the project needs and the available funds.

The JVCTC project aims to construct a new building that will serve as a centralized location for vocational training and career development programs. The estimated cost of the project is around $27 million, and various entities, including the state of North Dakota, have already committed to funding it.

However, with the rising cost of construction and growing demands of the project, the authorities are now looking for ways to maximize the use of the available funds.

During the meeting, the board members explored various options, including reducing the size of the building, delaying certain phases of construction, and exploring alternative financing options.

The board members acknowledged the importance of the JVCTC project in providing students with a top-notch vocational and career development program. Therefore, they emphasized the need to find a balanced approach that aligns with the available funds.

The board decided to further investigate the various options and bring back a comprehensive plan at the next meeting, which is scheduled for June 21.

The Jamestown Valley Career and Technology Center project has been a top priority for the authorities, and they remain committed to ensuring its success. With careful planning and wise utilization of the available funds, the authorities are hopeful of delivering a state-of-the-art facility that will create new opportunities and build a better future for students in the Jamestown area.
