Ayaneo expands its line of portable gaming PCs with two new form factors

  • Ayaneo’s ever-expanding lineup of handheld gaming PCs is getting more form factors. As part of its 2023 strategy event, the company unveiled the Air Plus, which has a larger screen than the standard Air (6 inches versus 5.5 inches) and, more importantly, a much larger 46.2Whr battery (versus 28Whr). We still don’t expect the new version to last long when playing more demanding games, but it may be better suited to long casual game sessions.

The Air Plus will be available in two lower-end Intel configurations (Celeron and Core i3), as well as faster AMD models (Ryzen 5 7520U and Ryzen 7 6800U). The more you’re willing to spend, the better the performance should be. Although final pricing is not yet available, Ayaneo expects to begin pre-orders after the Lunar New Year celebrations conclude on February 5th.

The Ayaneo Slide is the company’s first foray into the slider market. To some extent, it’s a response to the GPD Win 4 — you can bring up the screen when you need a keyboard for text input or simply navigating games that don’t support gamepads. During the event, Ayaneo said little else about the Slide, but did confirm that it would be based on AMD’s recently launched Ryzen 7000 mobile APUs and would ship in the second quarter of the year.

It’s too soon to tell how Ayaneo’s latest offerings stack up against their main rival, Valve’s Steam Deck. The company has promised an updated front end (Ayaspace 2), but it is unclear whether this will be sufficient to overcome the limitations of running Windows on a handheld device. Having said that, it’s clear that Ayaneo isn’t standing still in the face of increased competition.
