“But amid all this quality and consistency, Destiny 2 can sometimes feel too predictable,” writes Destiny 2’s Joe Blackburn. Players only have to relearn Destiny every three months, and to maintain our team’s health and endurance, it’s clear that too much predictability has created a lack of surprise and fun when a our major game updates reach you.”

The studio admits that their constant stream of content updates has made the game feel like a celebrity to its dedicated player base.

The team also responded to complaints that there’s “not enough to do” in Destiny 2, saying they recognize that the most demanding players often run out of content to learn at the end of each season. Having addressed those issues, the team listed four big goals for Destiny 2: expanding players’ imaginations, bringing challenges back to Destiny, enriching content, and connecting Guardians guard.

Lightfall will launch with the Season of Defiance, which should reduce the complexity of Destiny’s progression system. This includes less competing currencies, easier resource management, and more. Destiny will also begin to explore more themes and fantasy, citing last year’s reapers, pirates, and cowboys as examples of how Destiny’s settings can push pre-existing boundaries.

Bungie also plans to tweak the balance between players and enemies to bring a more challenging feel to Destiny 2, without enemies feeling like sponges. The developers also hope to consolidate pre-existing PvP and PvE content so that players feel like there’s always something to do, even after completing the majority of each season and new expansion content. Finally, the developers are adding new matchmaking tools to help players quickly find a team.

Destiny 2: Lightfall launches on February 28. The expansion is set to mark the “beginning of the end” for Destiny 2 and will introduce a new qhole map on Neptune called Neo Luna. Bungie also confirmed that they won’t be removing any past expansions from the Light and Darkness saga so new players can experience the full story.
