  • Mercy Oladipo struggled to choose a major when she entered MIT, with interests in both computer science and medicine.
  • Ultimately, Oladipo decided to major in computer science and molecular biology to meet pre-medical requirements.
  • Oladipo’s passion for equity in healthcare and education led her to co-found the startup Birth By Us with Ijeoma Uche at the Womxn Ignite tech incubator.

Senior Mercy Oladipo is a rising star in the field of public health, using her skills to create tools and resources to address health care disparities. Oladipo, who is currently studying at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, has dedicated her academic career to understanding the complex issues that contribute to inequality in health outcomes.

Oladipo’s work is focused on developing innovative solutions that can help underserved communities access the care they need. In particular, she is exploring the ways that technology can be used to bridge the gap between patients and providers, and to improve health outcomes across the board.

One of Oladipo’s most exciting projects involves the development of a mobile app that will help low-income patients navigate the health care system. The app, which is still in development, will provide users with access to information about nearby clinics and hospitals, as well as resources to help them understand their health conditions and treatment options.

Oladipo’s work has already garnered her recognition from a number of prestigious organizations. In 2020, she was named a Rhodes Scholar, one of the highest honors for young scholars in the United States. She has also been awarded a Fulbright Scholarship and a Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Graduate Scholarship, which provide financial support for her research and academic pursuits.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to exacerbate health care disparities around the world, Oladipo’s work has taken on a new urgency. Her innovative approach to public health is providing hope for a future in which all patients have access to the care they need, regardless of their background or socioeconomic status.
