TAIPEI, TAIWAN – In a much-awaited announcement, MediaTek and Nvidia unveiled the ‘Dimensity Auto’ platform at the Computex 2023 launch event held here today. The cutting-edge platform seeks to revolutionize the autonomous vehicle industry by providing powerful hardware and software solutions designed to enhance advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).

With the sheer amount of technology required to power modern self-driving cars, the demand for powerful and reliable processors is more significant than ever. The Dimensity Auto platform is designed to meet this demand by providing a comprehensive solution that includes powerful, energy-efficient, and reliable chipsets tailored for the next generation of autonomous vehicles.

The Dimensity Auto platform is an integrated system that includes NVIDIA’s Drive AGX platform, which provides advanced AI capabilities, along with MediaTek’s Dimensity 5G SoCs, designed to allow vehicles to interact with each other and the infrastructure. The platform will enable features such as driver monitoring systems, lane-keeping, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control to name a few.

At the launch event, MediaTek’s CEO, Rick Tsai, stated that “the advent of autonomous vehicles requires a powerful and reliable technology platform to keep drivers safe. The Dimensity Auto platform is designed to offer advanced processing capabilities through a combination of AI and industry-leading CPU and GPU technologies from both MediaTek and NVIDIA.”

Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of Nvidia, added that “by partnering with MediaTek, we’re able to integrate our Drive AGX platform with MediaTek’s extensive expertise in mobile technology to create an exciting new platform for self-driving cars. The Dimensity Auto platform will be a game-changer for the automotive industry and set new standards in advanced driver-assistance systems.”

As a result of the partnership agreement, MediaTek will contribute its extensive mobile technology expertise, while Nvidia will provide its experience in AI, cloud-based computing, and software development. This collaboration aims to create a comprehensive, powerful, and reliable platform, providing car manufacturers with a convenient solution to deliver next-generation vehicles.

The Dimensity Auto platform is set to change the game in the autonomous vehicle market, promising to provide an innovative hardware and software solution designed to improve driver safety, while enabling new and exciting features for drivers and passengers. With the platform set for release in early 2024, the future looks bright for self-driving cars.
