Expro has received funding for two carbon reduction projects as part of its innovation program to accelerate clean energy production and close the net-zero technology gap. Aberdeen-based Net Zero Technology Center (NZTC) has pledged a total of £8m to fund Net Zero Technology through its Open Innovation 2022 programme. The 20 winning technologies were selected from 154 eligible entries and grouped into seven focus areas.
The technology has undergone a rigorous selection process to ensure each supports the transition to net zero, with a commitment to testing and deploying the technology within the UK continental shelf. Expro secured both projects and won the venting and flaring division. Expro’s two winning projects focus on:
Real-time flare emission measurement and control
Unique technical solution for well testing without flaring
Both projects will promote a more measured and efficient method of flaring, offering an alternative to traditional flaring and supporting the operator’s commitment to reduce carbon emissions.
They demonstrate Expro’s commitment to continuously evolving its technology and services portfolio and driving its net-zero transition.
NZTC estimates that 20 successful technology projects will bring him a total value added of £7.8 billion and an impact of 3.1 million tonnes of CO2e per year.
Expro Chief Technology Officer Steve Russell said:
“Technology is a key factor in advancing the energy transition, as is collaboration and partnership to achieve our common goals. We are committed to addressing the impact of ourselves and our industry on the planet, which includes working with customers around the world to design and implement solutions that reduce emissions from unnecessary flaring. includes implementing. ” Some recent case studies demonstrating this approach include:
Expro recently helped a client in the Middle East reduce gas flaring and optimize production at 10 manufacturing sites. Expro has conducted extensive research to find an economical alternative to flaring. The solution was to run the compressors with gas that had been delivered, installed and commissioned within 32 weeks. It is estimated that the fast-track project will reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by up to 10,000 tons of CO2e per day.
Using compressors has allowed us to optimize production and extend field life while reducing operating costs. In the Asia-Pacific region, Expro helped a customer complete the rehabilitation of two wells without hydrocarbon flares. The campaign was part of the overall goal of reducing greenhouse gases and waste flares during well operations. Expro designed and delivered a well test procedure that reduced an estimated 4,000 tons of CO2e emissions during cleanup operations.
