Forsyth Tech Shooting and “Unsafe” Drag Show Spark Parental Outcry for Termination

Tech News Summary:

  • Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools and Forsyth Technical Community College have agreed to improve communication and limit access to parts of the campus deemed inappropriate for high school students following two incidents involving high school students on campus. One incident involved a student shooting himself in the hand during a field trip, while the other involved a drag performer briefly sitting on a high school student.
  • Some parents are calling for the school district to take more action regarding the drag performance incident, including disciplining staff members and stopping the supposed forcing of a sexual agenda on their children. However, some members of the community support Pride events and believe gun violence is a bigger concern.
  • The updates to the agreement between the schools were approved by the school board on Tuesday. Police did not file any charges regarding the drag performer incident, and the district attorney’s office is currently reviewing the situation.

In a stunning turn of events, parents of students at Forsyth Technical Community College are demanding an end to what they’re calling an “unsafe” drag show held on campus. The show, which reportedly featured explicit content and lewd behavior, has sparked outrage among conservative members of the community.

In addition, parents are also calling for increased security measures and stricter gun control policies after a shooting occurred on campus last week. The shooting, which left two students injured, has only added to the concerns over safety at the college.

“We are appalled by the lack of respect for traditional values and morality displayed in the drag show,” said Karen Johnson, a parent of a student at the college. “And the shooting just goes to show that we need to do more to protect our children.”

Some students, however, are pushing back against the demands of conservative parents. They argue that the drag show was an important display of diversity and inclusion on campus, and that restricting such events would be a step backwards.

“It’s disappointing to see that some of the parents are trying to dictate what can and cannot be shown on campus,” said Josh Hernandez, a student at Forsyth Tech. “We need to be promoting acceptance and tolerance, not censorship.”

The administration of Forsyth Tech has not yet commented on the demands of parents, but the issue is likely to remain a contentious one in the coming weeks.
