The Oppo Find N2 Flip is a fantastic clamshell foldable, but sadly the exterior display is very constrained. But, there is now a way to run whole Android apps on the cover screen of the Oppo Find N2 Flip.
The Find N2 Flip’s cover display can only be used to run a select few utilities, just like the Galaxy Z Flip 4 before it. That consists mostly of timers, the camera, and the weather prediction. We identified it as one of the main drawbacks of the device in our evaluation from last week. But it’s a problem with a solution, albeit an unofficial one, thanks to astute developers.
A long back, CoverScreen OS made its debut on the Galaxy Z Flip series, allowing fully functional Android apps to run on the outer display. Although the Samsung phone’s extremely small exterior display certainly made a difference in our testing, it worked very well overall. The Oppo Find N2 Flip and its cover screen are now included in CoverScreen OS’s most recent upgrade.
When CoverScreen OS is loaded and configured on an Oppo Find N2 Flip, entire apps can be opened on the outer cover screen. Moreover, voice dictation and a full QWERTY keyboard are available, albeit many apps, like Chrome, have scaling issues. The app also enables the usage of any widget on the Flip’s outside display as opposed to the limited number Oppo supports out of the box.
The Locate N2 Flip is now much more usable, so this is still a major gain for anyone who gambled on it.
The developer explains that Locate N2 Flip functionality is still in the works and is deemed “experimental,” therefore the setup instructions for the program haven’t been updated completely for the Oppo handset. The back gesture is still located at the top of the screen when in an app, among other oddities.
