Hawaii Gas and Oceanit will test the revolutionary HydroPel technology

  • To save the planet from oil-related climate impacts, we must replace our dependence on fossil fuels with attractive yet clean alternatives like hydrogen. DOE recently selected Oceanit to develop a breakthrough hydrogen production technology that uses directed energy to propel this mission.

Hydrogen (H2) is often produced by the laborious process of electrolyzing water. This technology was invented in his 1880s, over 100 years ago. Since then, the process has remained essentially unchanged. Leveraging previous research with the US Department of Defense (DOD), Oceanit’s “HALO” system now uses targeted energy to produce clean hydrogen. The world needs to switch to ‘clean’ fuels that work in concert with the existing global energy infrastructure. H2 will be this fuel.

Oceanit’s technology could be the foundation for hydrogen production, enabling major international and domestic energy companies to accelerate the transition from oil to clean energy. This project has the potential to not only reduce water treatment costs and energy consumption, but also create a clean energy source.

Producing hydrogen alongside other value-added materials significantly reduces waste and offsets the environmental impact of ongoing oil and gas production. “We have great partnerships with international and national energy companies. We will be working with major energy companies on this project,” said Patrick Sullivan, CEO of Oceanit.

Hydrogen is a very efficient and clean-burning fuel, so it could be the key to decarbonisation. HALO’s development is part of Oceanit’s EDGE initiative. EDGE (Energy and Decarbonization for the Earth’s Environment) has many moving parts, including working in the areas of energy production, transmission, refining and distribution.

“Oceanit and this partner will work together to develop practical applications of high-energy physics to demonstrate novel ideas in H2 production. New energy sources can be created and developed, and HALO provides progress towards tomorrow’s sustainable hydrogen-based economy.”

Founded in 1985 in Honolulu, Hawaii, Oceanit is an award-winning company striving to solve critical problems in areas such as aerospace, energy, environment and climate, marine science, health, and materials to solve. A privately held mind-to-market company that develops disruptive innovations. Oceanit applies a unique discipline of ‘Intellectual Anarchy’ to transform basic research developed in the lab into impactful technology for the market. Oceanit develops innovative solutions, services and products.
