Lyten’s Revolutionary Lithium-Sulfur EV Battery Tech Empowers Stellantis!

Stellantis, one of the world’s leading car manufacturers, is set to power up its EVs with the revolutionary lithium-sulfur (Li-S) battery technology developed by Lyten, a UK-based energy storage company.

The Li-S battery technology is touted to be a game-changer for the EV market, as it offers several key advantages over conventional lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries. These include higher energy density, longer range, and faster charging times, all while being cheaper and more environmentally friendly.

Stellantis has entered into a partnership with Lyten to develop and commercialize the Li-S battery technology for use in its future EVs. The collaboration will leverage Stellantis’ expertise in vehicle design and manufacturing, alongside Lyten’s expertise in advanced battery chemistry and materials.

“The adoption of electrification is accelerating at an unprecedented rate, and battery technology is at the heart of this transformation,” said Carlos Tavares, CEO of Stellantis. “Our partnership with Lyten will enable us to offer our customers next-generation EVs with longer range, faster charging times, and at a more affordable price point.”

Lyten’s Li-S batteries use a sulfur-based cathode and a lithium metal anode, which together enable the battery to store more energy than conventional Li-ion batteries. This results in a longer range for EVs, without the need for larger or heavier battery packs.

In addition, the Li-S batteries are more environmentally friendly than Li-ion batteries, as they use non-toxic and abundant materials, are easier to recycle, and have a smaller carbon footprint.

“We are excited to partner with Stellantis to bring our groundbreaking Li-S battery technology to the mass market,” said Jakob Askeland, CEO of Lyten. “Our battery technology offers a unique combination of higher energy density, lower cost, and improved environmental performance, which we believe will be a game-changer for the EV industry.”

Stellantis and Lyten are expected to begin testing prototypes of the Li-S batteries in the coming months, with production targeted for the early 2020s. The companies have not disclosed which Stellantis brands will first use this technology.
