Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg Discusses Decision to Not Launch iPhone App Store Despite EU Regulations

In a recent interview, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg explained why the company won’t be launching an iPhone app store despite the European Union’s new regulations. The EU’s new digital markets act, which aims to promote competition and curb the power of tech giants, has raised questions about Meta’s app store plans.

Zuckerberg cited concerns about the costs and complexity of developing and maintaining an app store specifically for the iPhone. He also mentioned that Meta’s focus is on creating an open and interoperable platform that can be accessed by users on different devices, rather than creating a closed ecosystem.

“We believe in providing a platform that is accessible to all, regardless of the device they use. This includes iPhone users, but it also extends to other devices as well,” said Zuckerberg.

The decision comes as a surprise to many, as an app store for the iPhone could potentially increase Meta’s revenue and offer more opportunities for developers to distribute their apps. However, Zuckerberg emphasized that the company’s priority is to create a more open and inclusive digital environment.

“We want to ensure that our platforms are accessible to as many people as possible, and that means focusing on creating a seamless experience across different devices, rather than creating a separate app store for each,” he added.

Despite the EU’s new regulations, Meta is standing firm in its decision not to launch an iPhone app store. It remains to be seen how this decision will impact the company’s relationship with Apple and its app ecosystem in the future.
