Michigan Tech Athletics Celebrates Academic Honors as Huskies Excel in the Classroom

Michigan Tech Athletics is celebrating the academic success of their Huskies student-athletes, who have scored big in the classroom with an impressive list of academic honors.

The Huskies posted an overall grade point average (GPA) of 3.38 for the 2020-2021 academic year, which marks the fifth consecutive year that the athletics program has posted a GPA above 3.30. The team also earned a spot on the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Learfield Directors’ Cup list of top performing schools.

More than 40 Huskies student-athletes were recognized with the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) All-Academic Excellence Award for maintaining a GPA of 3.5 or higher, while over 170 were named to the GLIAC All-Academic Team for achieving a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Additionally, the Huskies had several individual academic accomplishments, including senior wrestler Justin Collier being named the NCAA Elite 90 Award winner for Division II wrestling for having the highest cumulative GPA among student-athletes at the national championships.

Michigan Tech’s Director of Athletics, Suzanne Sanregret, praised the student-athletes for their dedication and hard work both in the classroom and on the field.

“We are incredibly proud of our student-athletes for their academic excellence and for demonstrating the values of Michigan Tech Athletics both on and off the field,” Sanregret said. “Their academic success is a testament to their commitment to excellence, and we are excited to see them continue to succeed in their academic and athletic pursuits.”

The Huskies’ academic success is a reflection of the university’s commitment to providing student-athletes with a well-rounded education and supporting their academic aspirations in addition to their athletic pursuits. The program has a strong emphasis on academic success and has implemented several initiatives to support student-athlete academic achievement, including academic advising, study tables, and priority registration for classes.

Michigan Tech Athletics’ commitment to academic excellence has yielded great success for its student-athletes, and the program looks forward to continuing its academic success in the upcoming academic year.
