Microsoft offers EU remedies to get the deal with Activision approved

According to Microsoft President Brad Smith, the American software giant was ready to offer licensing agreements to rivals in order to allay concerns about increased competition, but not to sell Activision’s successful “Call of Duty” franchise.

The EU competition enforcer will now solicit feedback from competitors and clients before making a decision by May 22 after failing to provide specifics as required by policy.

The business recently signed contracts with three businesses to release “Call of Duty” on their platforms.

A spokesperson said, “By signing agreements to bring the game to the Nintendo console and cloud game streaming services offered by Nvidia, Boosteroid, and Ubitus, we have stood behind our promise to bring Call of Duty to more gamers on more devices.

In order to guarantee that this agreement continues to benefit gamers, we are now backing up that pledge with legally binding commitments to the European Commission.

According to sources who spoke to Reuters, the company is likely to secure EU clearance for the deal with these licensing agreements and other behavioural remedies, but it’s unclear whether the UK competition enforcer will follow suit.
