After years of teasing, Netflix is finally putting its hat on the AAA gaming ring. The streaming giant has acquired a number of game studios and is slowly working on his first major release. it will be a AAA PC title. The job is for the Los Angeles division of Netflix Game Studios, and given the amount of money Netflix is willing to put in, it could get closer to AAAA if the streaming company goes all-in on the games division.
This is definitely a big step for Netflix, as Netflix game offerings have previously been mobile-centric or streaming-centric. It’s not trivial, but it’s not as important as AAA PC games. Depending on what the job ad is for, it could be an FPS or a third-person shooter. The game is expected to appeal to hundreds of millions of people worldwide and is reminiscent of Valorant and other competitive shooters that Netflix has been eyeing.
it could also be an “exciting” third-person action-RPG, but signs of a big AAA project seem to stray from it.The LA studio is run by former Overwatch boss Chacko Sony. Most of the indications right now point towards FPS/Third-Person Shooter. Maybe Netflix is developing two games at the same studio right now?
The big AAA game is apparently aiming to be “he’s one of the first generation of original games developed in-house by Netflix.” This makes sense, as services like Xbox Game Pass make incredible amounts of money each year. Will we one day see Netflix Game Pass tied to the premium version of the subscription? Combining the two markets under one roof is certainly an interesting endeavor.
The game’s prototype was built in Unreal Engine, which isn’t surprising given its popularity. Why reinvent the wheel if you don’t have to? After all, Netflix doesn’t want to create niche titles. According to the advertising site, Netflix wants to put its own twist on the popular genre, investing hundreds of millions of dollars to make it dazzling and add some live service gaming elements. Easier said than done, but Netflix isn’t short on capital, so in theory it should be able to make great games. we will see.
