Nintendo’s archive site, Forest of Illusion, has acquired the “infamous” Mario Kart XXL tech demo, a pitch from Denaris Entertainment Software for the Game Boy Advance dating back to April 2004. It’s now available for download.
The German development studio (founded by Turrican creator Manfred Trenz) initially provided the game and its “dynamic, customizable two-field perspective view engine” to Nintendo Europe.
Consisting of his one track using his Mario Kart assets, this demo features background his music created by his PlayStation racer named Moorhuhn Kart, who Denaris also helped develop.
Interestingly, this Mario Kart demo started as a racing he game called “R3D Demo”. The same developer eventually released Kart Tracer for Game Boy Advance, based on the CGI cartoon character Crazy Frog. Oops!
