In fiscal 2022, Michigan Tech anticipates expenditure on research to reach $95.78 million, an increase of more than 17% from the record-breaking $81.7 million spent the previous year.
Michigan Tech will spend more than $95 million on research for the first time in school history. This accomplishment is a testament to the effort and commitment of our academics and researchers as well as the caliber of thought in our whole research community.
The institution has experienced a sustained increasing trend; during the previous 20 years, he has quadrupled research funding, and this year’s strong growth is just the latest example. the university will be able to meet its target of $200 million in research investment by 2035, or approximately ten years earlier than expected.

More than 78% of the rewards given out came from federal funding. More than half of that is made up by the National Science Foundation and the US Department of Defense combined. At institutions from the Great Lakes Research Center to the Michigan Technological Institute, where interdisciplinary collaboration is part of the concept, both awards and spending have increased dramatically.
