Sharpsville Students Embrace Tech-Savvy Learning in the Classroom

The use of drones in education has become increasingly popular, with schools incorporating them into their curriculum to teach students various skills. At Sharpsville High School, drones have become a regular part of the STEM/STEAM curriculum, providing students with hands-on experience in science, technology, engineering, art, and math.

In a recent class at Sharpsville Area Middle School, students were seen flying drones in the school cafeteria under the supervision of teacher Peyton Schell. The activity was not just for fun; it was aimed at reinforcing skill-building and problem-solving elements in their math enrichment class.

Principal Heidi Marshall highlighted that the school has been focusing on STEM/STEAM education over the past few years. Utilizing sources like Woz ED, a curriculum provider by Steve Wozniak, offers pathways for students’ preparation for careers in science and technology.

Students showcased their skills with Sphero robots and AR/VR programs during a demonstration to the school board, leading to an approval for another purchase from Woz ED. Teacher Abby Ainsley’s technology exploration class allows students to work on projects across the Woz ED curriculum.

Integrating drone technology into education provides an engaging learning experience and develops crucial skills for future careers in science and technology. Hands-on experiences with cutting-edge technologies like drones are becoming essential in modern education.
