Later this month, a ground-breaking medical innovation that is benefiting patients in the south of England will be introduced at the University of Portsmouth. The University of Portsmouth, in collaboration with the Wessex Clinical Research Network and the Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust, is the driving force behind the business support initiative SIGHT (Supporting Innovation and Growth in Healthcare Technologies).
Small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) in the medical technology industry will receive help and direction from a £1.7 million program, which is partially supported by the ERDF (European Regional Development Fund). Additionally, it provides small enterprises with access to physician and patient groups so that their goods can cater to the particular requirements of these end users.
SIGHT has collaborated with more than 400 businesses in England over the course of its three-year program to help create and sell medical and healthcare products. Examples comprise:
Offering COVID-19 antibody testing is NTL Biologica
Use the Disable The Label app to find assistance for parents of handicapped children.
ioLight is creating portable microscopes that are small, high-quality, and allow for on-the-spot sample analysis.
CEO of SIGHT, Dr. Phil Jewell, stated: “SIGHT has collaborated with many highly creative SMEs who are creating next-generation solutions for enhancing healthcare. We have the chance to highlight some of these advancements at this event while also defining SIGHT’s upcoming directions.
It is our goal to increase SIGHT support in our neighborhood in order to have a stronger influence on patient wellbeing and quality of life. The health tech sector is crucial to both the local and national economies. A showcase event will honor SIGHT’s accomplishments on October 27 at the University of Portsmouth.
It will include presentations and discussions from academics and medical professionals about SIGHT’s vision, goals, and accomplishments; the effect the program had on its SME members; the partnership with Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust; an update on the SIGHT programme; and exciting future plans building on the project’s legacy.
