For PS5 owners looking forward to The Elder Scrolls 6, Xbox has bad news. Since acquiring Bethesda, Xbox has yet to explicitly say if The Elder Scrolls 6 will come to his PS5. We expect that not to be the case, but thanks to vague comments from Xbox in the past and the fact that it continues to bring several games to the PlayStation console, the PS5 will have its next long-awaited installment. There’s still hope for the Bethesda series to come to Sony’s console. Nothing definitive yet from Xbox in that regard, but some new official documents are about to put the final nail in the coffin.
Microsoft is now trying to persuade UK regulators not to block its acquisition of Activision-Blizzard. They put forward some arguments about this. And one of those discussions refers to The Elder Scrolls 6 as a “mid-sized game”, so exclusivity isn’t much of an issue, as the last mainline installment was released in 2011. It also claims that not releasing a game on the PlayStation platform does not constitute disqualification.
In the accompanying chart, Xbox divides its games into his three categories: niche, new IP/unsafe audience, and mass market. According to Microsoft, the former and latter categories are the least likely to be exclusive to the Xbox platform, but the middle category is. And that’s where The Elder Scrolls VI clearly falls.
At this point there’s no confirmation that The Elder Scrolls VI isn’t coming to his PS5, but it’s definitely another notch. If the game released now under a ton of scrutiny from regulators, it could be more likely to be cross-platform, but it hasn’t been released in years and I imagine it’s coming to PS5 So if you have a PS5 and are hoping for games, you’ll probably have to copy an Xbox Series X or buy a decent gaming PC unless Xbox Game Pass comes to PS5. There is, but it is also unlikely.
