The first Spider-Man had a nice little feature that adjusted the dialogue to match what Spidey was doing. Insomniac’s new dialogue system could evolve into even more dynamic dialogue based on this idea. There are, but given that Spider-Man 2 is heavily involved with Venom, there are some very interesting possibilities.
As posted on the GamingLeaksandRumors subreddit, the new information comes from his Insomniac’s official Twitch channel livestream. While streaming, lead engine programmer Elan Ruskin said the studio’s next game (believed to be Spider-Man 2) would implement a “very cool” dialogue system. Unfortunately, there are no further details, and we don’t know exactly how this system will be implemented, but there are some possibilities.
Spider-Man 2’s first and only trailer teased Venom, but it’s entirely possible that the symbiote will somehow show up in front of the villain. Traditionally, before Venom came along, Peter Parker or Miles Morales had hosted the symbiotes.
Adaptive dialogue can have the symbiote comment on Spider-Man’s actions, and can even be applied to more elaborate moral systems. It’s fascinating to see Spider-Man 2 implement some sort of Mass Effect-style paragon and renegade system. It will allow us to deliver more complex superhero stories that deal with the nature of ‘great responsibility’.
It’s possible that Insomniac doesn’t want to challenge the hero’s morale. In that case, Venom can apply a morale system to itself. Venom is speculated to be the third playable character, and the addition of a moral system would allow Venom’s section to be completely distinct from Peter and Miles. Venom was as much an antihero as he was a villain, so Adaptive His story, which focuses on both good and evil, is a phenomenal way to portray the character.
