UT Arlington President Jennifer Cowley said UTA’s partnerships with businesses are essential in building the university’s work in the community. “We are grateful that State Farm Insurance values partnerships like these for the benefit of our students,” Cowley said. “Our students are gaining important work experience while they’re still in college, and they’re helping the UTA corporate world develop real-world solutions to everyday challenges.”
“As the largest provider of auto and home insurance in the United States, State Farm is committed to making technology more efficient to help our customers where and how they want it,” said Wendy Mazza, vice president of P&C claims operations at State Farm. “The State Farm Technology Lab at UTA will open those doors for our interns and show them that what they’re doing here with us is meaningful and valuable.”
Chris McMurrough, associate professor of CSE and director of senior design, said, “At its core, the partnership is about career training for UTA students. It’s about job placement. Insurance companies have hired many students who work in State Farm spaces.” State Farm already offers scholarships and supports events like HackUTA (UTA’s annual hackathon) and the College of Engineering’s Innovation Day. State Farm has provided more than $50,000 for the technology lab.
