In a blog post, Valve mentions the new design as one of the app’s key new features, and at least in my brief testing on iOS, the improvements are immediately apparent. There is a navigation bar at the bottom of the , which you can use to navigate to the store, news feed, Steam Guard section, and more. But this app is more than just a repaint. It is based on the “new framework” and has some additional features.
I’ve been using the Steam iOS app quite a bit since I got my Steam deck, but every time I open the app I’ve had to deal with an interface that feels old. Update time will be longer. Valve seems to have felt the same way. Because we are currently testing a new version of the app. It looks dramatically different and, if you ask me, dramatically improved.
Highlights
As you know from Discord’s mobile app, you can now scan a QR code from the Steam Guard panel to log into your Steam account. Valve also says the new Steam app will have “smarter notifications, an improved library, and support for multiple accounts,” allowing you to continue browsing the store, verifying transactions, and more. Valve is currently beta testing the app on iOS and Android, so it’s not yet publicly available. If you want to try out the beta, follow the instructions on Valve’s website. However, if you’re using iOS, be aware that due to Apple’s TestFlight limitations, a large number of slots are available.
