The Jaguar F-Type, first introduced in 2011 as the CX-16 concept car, is considered by some on the MotorTrend staff (including myself. As one of the most beautiful cars ever made, I’m “staff”-The author). Beyond appearances, the Jaguar is far from perfect; it has always been a little heavy, but rather than shedding pounds, Jaguar chose to gradually increase the coupe’s power at higher trim levels to compensate. Over the years, Jaguar experimented with various drivetrains, including everything from a four-cylinder to a supercharged V-8 under the sinewy hood. Regardless of engine, we enjoyed every iteration of Jaguar’s sports car. So, what comes next?
“All good things must come to an end,” as the saying goes. The Jaguar F-Type will be phased out beginning with the 2024 model year. Furthermore, with the auto industry rapidly transitioning to electrified vehicles, the 2024 Jaguar F-Type could be the automaker’s final 100 percent gas-powered sports car. Jaguar will devote itself entirely to all-electric vehicles beginning in 2025.
That’s future talk though. Let us concentrate on the here and now. The 2024 Jaguar F-Type arrives during the brand’s 75th anniversary, so the automaker is incorporating the celebrations into special edition trims with all the bells and whistles. There are three models available: the F-Type 75, F-Type R 75, and R-Dynamic F-Type.
There are two flavours of a 5.0-liter supercharged V-8 available among the three trims: 450 horsepower or 575 horses. The 450-hp V-8 is standard on the F-Type 75 and R-Dynamic, while the 575-hp mill is standard on the R 75. The 75 and R 75 have all-wheel drive, while the R-Dynamic keeps things interesting by sending all of its power to the rear wheels. Both engines are mated to an automatic transmission with eight gears. The 450-hp V-8 will propel the Jag from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds, while the 575-hp V-8 will do so in only 3.5 seconds.
Yards of leather wrap the dashboard and lightweight “slimline” seats are found inside. Buyers can choose the “extended” leather package, which includes leather-wrapped door panels. In its default mode, a 12.3-inch configurable “Interactive Driver Display” replaces the traditional analogue gauge cluster, which displays a large digital tachometer in the centre.
When it comes to styling, there aren’t any significant changes from what we’ve seen on the F-Type in recent years. That is not to say that no changes have occurred. Because these are special editions, the 75 and R 75 trims have subtle exclusive badging on the fenders, as expected. The F-Type 75 rides on gloss black five-spoke wheels, while the R 75 rides on 10-spoke wheels. Both sets of wheels are 20 inches in diameter and finished in gloss black.
If you want to buy a 2024 Jaguar F-Type, chances are you’ve already placed an order. If this is the first time you’ve seen it, you should know that deliveries are set to begin in Spring 2023, and the MSRP starts at $77,900 plus $1,275 for destination and delivery. However, given the collectible nature of this model and the fact that it represents a historic transition for the brand, it’s safe to assume that significant dealer markups will be required to meet demand.
