  • The burgeoning life sciences sector underpins the Cambridge cluster and much of the UK economy. His local BioMedTech company has grown globally, working with the world’s leading pharmaceutical giants to improve patient prospects across a range of disease areas.

Cambridge therefore has some of the best practitioners in the literal realm of life and death, not just locally but around the world.

The Legal 500 Guide is notable for his selection of only four local law firms that do biotechnology-related work.

Tier 1 firms included Goodwin and Taylor Wessing, while Tier 2 firms included Mills & Reeve and Pennington’s Manchester Cooper. Goodwin has ‘an awareness of the biotech landscape, the demands on biotech companies, and the experience in biotech licensing arrangements globally.’

Pharmaceutical company Teva and gene and cell therapy provider Oxford Biomedica are two of its clientele. David Mardle, a partner in the life sciences and technology M&A and finance group, commercial IP expert Malcolm Bates, and licensing and contracts specialist Tim Worden, all of whom work in the Cambridge and London offices, are in charge of the practice.

The firm’s ‘experienced associates who operate autonomously, closely in communication with partners’ are cited by clients as one of its primary strengths. This results in a practice that is’very responsive and able to give inventive suggestions to handle potential challenges.

Talitha Shkopiak, a recently promoted attorney, specializes in commercial agreements for the development and commercialization of intellectual property rights, particularly for biotechnology enterprises.

Taylor Wessing receives acclaim from The Legal 500. “The Cambridge office of Taylor Wessing is essential to the company’s global biotechnology practice, which serves Cambridge Innovation Capital, Apollo Therapeutics, and Illumina as clients.
