The security update for this month is presently being distributed to the Galaxy Note 20 series in Europe. The new SMR is reportedly accessible in a number of nations in the region, including Germany, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and the UK, according to SamMobile, who broke the news of this distribution first. It should soon cross the bounds of Europe and enter other markets, like the US.

Despite starting later than expected this month, Samsung is moving quickly to update its devices with the September 2022 Android security patch. The business seeded the most recent security update earlier today to the Galaxy S21 series, Galaxy S20 FE 5G, and the Galaxy A52s. The Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra are now covered by the updated SMR (Security Maintenance Release).

Highlights

  • Speaking of while, Samsung confirmed that the latest security update contains fixes for over 50 vulnerabilities. These include two dozen high-severity Android OS issues affecting the entire Android ecosystem. Google says some of those security flaws could “lead to local escalation of privilege with no additional execution privileges needed.”

  • The most recent firmware update for the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 4G devices is N98*FXXS5FVH7. The 5G models’ equivalent is N98*BXXS5FVH7. With this update, none seem to experience any significant user-facing changes. Only the vulnerability fixes included in the September SMR are being sent by Samsung.

If you’re using the Galaxy Note 20 or Note 20 Ultra in Europe, you should get this update anytime now. Users in other regions can also look forward to it. A notification will arrive once the OTA (over the air) package is available. Software updates can also be checked manually from the Settings app, under the Software update section.

Additionally, the September SMR contains fixes for 29 SVE (Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures) items as well. These issues only affect Android products from the Korean brand. SVE items patches this month include flaws in Photo Editor, Video Editor, Telecom application, call background provider, and System UI.

The Galaxy Note 20 series is the last Note branded flagship from Samsung. The company has now discontinued the Galaxy Note lineup and merged its distinct features, such as the S Pen and flat body, with the Ultra model in the Galaxy S lineup. Debuted with Android 10 in mid-2020, the Galaxy Note 20 duo will get Android 13 later this year, or early next year. We will let you know when the update arrives.
