  • For the previous ten years, PlayStation’s London office has mainly focused on VR games and Singstar games, but in the PlayStation 5 era, the crew will be developing something entirely different. The studio revealed that it was working on a “ambitious” live service co-op game in a new interview with GamesIndustry.biz. The title is set in a fantasy and enchanted version of London. Although the team is giving up virtual reality for this new game, co-studio leader Stuart Whyte claimed that some of the game’s technical components were borrowed from his VR works.

“Our in-house game engine, the Soho Engine, is central to what we do here,” Whyte told GamesIndustry.biz. “It’s an engine built from the ground up for the demands of this generation of hardware and the games we’re making. It was designed to get the most out of the PS5. Some of the toolsets it uses almost certainly remind me of the VR Worlds and Blood & Truth tech we used on PS4 – after all, it’s a very efficient pipeline and engine for VR games. because it requires.”

Live service games will be a big part of PlayStation’s strategy for the next few years. PlayStation has seen the success of his games such as Fortnite, Call of Duty: Warzone, and Destiny 2, and is looking to make a big move into the genre. The company spent $3.6 billion to acquire Bungie. This deal was specifically designed to help Bungie develop new Live Services games. As of this writing, it’s unclear if the Destiny 2 developer will be involved in developing his London Studio’s next game, but it seems like a safe bet!

Live service games generate billions of dollars in revenue each year, but many games fail at launch. There is a lot of competition, and many studios lack the patience needed to build a dedicated user base.Hopefully, London Studios delivers an experience that stands out from other games on the market. I hope you will!
