Meta has announced that it will add legs to virtual avatars, but this is not yet on the Horizon Worlds VR platform and may not arrive until next year. Horizon Worlds users now have a legless torso as their virtual avatar. The fact that their bodies are floating in virtual worlds without legs confuses many.
The company’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg and another executive, his Aigerim Shorman avatars, were seen jumping and kicking during demos at the Meta Connect conference.
The problem with the leg demonstration was that it used motion capture technology rather than VR-based tracking. “To allow for future previews, this segment featured animation created from motion capture,” the company said. “Seriously, legs are tough,” Zuckerberg said.
Microsoft and Meta recently partnered to deliver immersive experiences in VR. The collaboration will bring Microsoft’s Teams and other productive tools to VR headsets, and Meta will have a partner in his Metaverse plans at scale. The company claims to deploy Windows 365 on Meta Quest devices in the future, which will help stream Windows cloud PCs.
