Google does not enjoy being dominated by Microsoft and OpenAI. It plans to reveal some details about its current AI progress in a YouTube livestream on February 8, according to reports, citing an invitation.
According to other media reports, Google may reveal its ChatGPT competitor. According to Bloomberg, Google has invested nearly $400 million in Anthropic.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai stated in a recent investor earnings call that users will be able to “interact directly” with the tech titan’s own language models, which will be available as a companion to Google Search.
“This will enable them to innovate and build their own applications on top of our language, multimodal, and other AI models,” he said.
The AI race has heated up following Microsoft’s $10 billion bet on ChatGPT maker OpenAI. The former has also recently announced that ChatGPT will be integrated into its cloud services in the future.
Pichai stated that the language models will be available in the coming weeks and months to assist Google in testing and improving the technology. The company intends to begin with LaMDA (Language Model for Dialog Applications), a conversational chatbot that a Google engineer claimed previously became sentient.
