Virginia Tech Organizes Impactful Arts Event with Ingoma Nshya Performance and Discussions for 700+ Students

Virginia Tech recently hosted an unforgettable arts experience for over 700 students, featuring a performance by the renowned Rwandan women’s drumming and dance ensemble, Ingoma Nshya. The event, which took place at the Moss Arts Center, also included in-depth discussions and workshops led by the members of the ensemble.

Ingoma Nshya, which means “new drum” in Kinyarwanda, has gained international acclaim for their powerful performances that celebrate Rwandan culture and the resilience of women. The ensemble, composed of women from both the Hutu and Tutsi ethnic groups, uses their art to promote healing and reconciliation in the aftermath of the Rwandan genocide.

The performance at Virginia Tech was met with great enthusiasm from the audience, who were captivated by the rhythmic drumming, colorful traditional attire, and energetic dance routines. Following the performance, students had the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations with the members of Ingoma Nshya, gaining insight into their experiences as artists and advocates for social change.
