  • De Anza College has received formal approval to award its first bachelor’s degree. The California Community College Board announced in late September that the Cupertino-based community college will be offering a Bachelor of Science degree in Automotive Engineering Management beginning in his 2023-24 academic year. De Anza was one of 10 community colleges to submit baccalauréat program proposals to the state premier’s office earlier this year, six of which have been forwarded to the board for approval.

A new course in Automotive Engineering has been developed by the Faculty of Economics, Computer Science and Applied Technology together with the Faculty of Automotive Engineering. This includes general education courses and new high school classes, which have not yet gone through the curriculum development process. De Anza wants to offer graduate courses in automotive marketing, supply chain management, sales forecasting, human resources, and more. Dave Capitolo, Chairman of De Anza’s Automotive Technology Division, said:

According to De Anza College officials, many of De Anza’s students are already working and are looking for better opportunities in the workplace. The Auto He Tech department offers both day and evening programs to accommodate working students and other working students. Awarding a bachelor’s degree expands academic and career paths for students, especially for historically underrepresented populations who do not have the time or money to pursue an advanced degree.

Dean of business, computer science, and applied technologies at De Anza, “the new BS has been created on the notion of stackable credentials, which allows individuals to proceed on a career path that can improve their economic standing.” “Students can get a certificate, an associate degree, and now a bachelor’s degree, all for a lot less money than they would at a university,” the statement reads.

Western region education manager of Subaru University, a collaboration between select Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Education Foundation schools and Subaru of America, “most retailers are seeking for managers that have a four-year degree.” Entry-level automotive technical education is assessed and accredited by the nonprofit organization ASE. He is the perfect candidate for manager of all departments in a dealership, because he combines a bachelor’s degree with experience in automotive engineering.

The automotive industry is a significant source of jobs in California, and it is growing into new industries like autonomous vehicles and has been boosted by improvements in consumer automobile technology. When creating its plan, the auto tech department acquired data from auto dealerships, repair facilities, and auto parts retailers.

De Anza’s automotive engineering department enrolls more than 2,000 students each year. He currently holds an associate’s degree in automotive machining and engine repair technology, as well as offering advanced engine performance, automotive chassis, and automotive powertrain technology.
