Xbox users can play quite a few Final Fantasy series titles, but Final Fantasy XIV is still limited to PlayStation and PC. Xbox boss Phil Spencer said in 2019 that he would love to see an MMO on Xbox, but almost three years later, nothing has changed. Thankfully, Spencer doesn’t seem to forget his earlier comment.
Japanese outlet Game Watch recently asked Spencer about the possibility of Final Fantasy XIV finally coming to Xbox. Spencer didn’t offer anything specific, but did offer a little hope for those who still wanted to see it. “Of course we announced (laughs). Of course, we haven’t given up yet. This is Microsoft and Square Enix’s commitment to gamers and we will continue to coordinate our efforts,” Spencer said on Game Watch.
Final His Fantasy XIV has been around for quite some time, but his interest in the game has skyrocketed over the past year, thanks in part to a famous streamer on Twitch. In fact, Square Enix’s interest was so great for a while that the publisher was forced to temporarily halt new sales of the game. Things have cooled down a bit since then, but a port to Xbox may encourage more players to try the game.
Earlier this year, Square Enix announced its 10-year roadmap for Final Fantasy XIV, so the company doesn’t plan to end support anytime soon.Of course, that roadmap didn’t include plans for Xbox. but it could definitely change at some point. For now, Xbox fans will have to wait and see if things change, and if Spencer and Square Enix find a way to make that happen.
