London, UK – The United Kingdom and India have announced their intention to forge a powerful partnership in the field of technology innovation. This move marks a significant step towards facilitating trade and collaboration, as both nations strive to further their respective goals of economic and social growth.

In a joint statement, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi, signalled their commitment to boosting bilateral relations and promoting business opportunities. The two leaders acknowledged the important role that technology and innovation play in driving economic development, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

UK businesses will benefit from easier access to India’s fast-growing market, with a potential market of over 1.3 billion people. Meanwhile, Indian firms will be able to tap into the UK’s deep pool of technical know-how and expertise, particularly in the areas of fintech, data science and artificial intelligence.

The agreement comes as a timely boost to bilateral relations between the UK and India. Both countries share a common vision of global engagement and have expressed a commitment to promoting sustainable economic growth and development.

Speaking at a press conference, Prime Minister Johnson said: “India and the UK share a strong bond, grounded in our shared history, values and culture. We are now entering a new era of partnership, one that will harness the power of technology and innovation to drive growth, create jobs and ensure that we build back better from this pandemic.”

Prime Minister Modi echoed these sentiments, adding: “The UK and India are natural partners in trade, technology and innovation. Our collaboration will act as a force multiplier for both our economies, and will help us achieve our shared aspirations of a prosperous and healthy world.”

The UK and India have a long history of collaboration in the field of technology. Many Indian tech firms, including Infosys, Wipro and Tata Consultancy Services, already have a significant presence in the UK, while UK companies such as Vodafone and HSBC have invested heavily in India’s burgeoning tech sector.

With this new partnership, both countries are well-positioned to drive forward their respective agendas, forging a new era of collaboration and innovation in the technology space.
