Logitech G has officially unveiled its all-new gaming handheld: the Logitech G Cloud, designed for use with cloud streaming services like Xbox Cloud Streaming. The device runs native Android and is capable of playing all Android-based games, but adapting it to the cloud makes it the only handheld on the market today.
The device was made in partnership with Xbox, so it fully supports the Xbox Cloud Streaming service, but it will be able to run other cloud services, with Nvidia GeForce Now and Steam Link also getting word of it.
While cloud streaming performance is still very uncertain in places like Australia, where internet connections are barely strong, it’s been much more advanced in regions like the US, UK and regions of Asia. Services like Google Stadia and GeForce Now have large and active user bases abroad, many of whom are likely willing to shell out for this device.
It will cost $350 (US$530) at launch – a disproportionate price to pay for a handset with limited cloud-based capabilities – but those with strong internet , powerful will probably appreciate a dedicated game device capable of tapping into the almighty cloud .
7 inch FHD IPS touch screen
Here’s a basic rundown of what to expect from Logitech G Cloud:
Brightness 450 nits
Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G processor
USB-C connector and 3.5mm headphone Bluetooth 5.1
Stereo speakers and microphones 12 hours of battery life
The device works similar to a mobile smartphone, focusing only on the game. This raises the question of where the device will go, as most people already own a smartphone capable of running games, including cloud games, but it may take time. Battery life, dedicated controls and an emphasis on gaming will attract a new audience of laptop enthusiasts. Logitech G Cloud is expected to launch first in the US and Canada on October 18, 2022. Local pricing and availability in Australia are yet to be confirmed – although the device may not be launched.
