Cheat sheet for the iPhone 14 Plus: everything new. According to Apple, the iPhone 14 Plus will go on sale in full on October 7, much later than the standard iPhone 14, and preorders will begin on Friday, September 9. If you know you want this new iPhone model, it might be a good idea to place your purchase as soon as possible, but either way, there will be a considerable wait.

It seems logical that Apple is attempting something new in response to allegedly weak sales of the iPhone 12 small and iPhone 13 mini. The iPhone 14 Plus at least seems to be the iPhone customers have been desperately wanting for a while, even though we can’t forecast the future. For more information on all the features Apple has revealed for the iPhone 14 Plus, continue reading. Check out the other brand-new versions as well, including the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max. For a comparison of the strengths and weaknesses of the two models, see our iPhone 14 vs. iPhone 14 Plus face-off.

Highlights

  • Outside of the Apple ecosystem, that price tag puts the iPhone 14 Plus in range of the Samsung Galaxy S22 ($799 / AU$1,249) and Galaxy S22 Plus ($999 / AU$1,549), and also the Google Pixel 6 Pro ($899 / AU$1,299). Unlike the dinky 5.4-inch iPhone 13 mini that this model replaces, the iPhone 14 Plus measures 6.7 inches, like previous Pro Max iPhones except without all the Pro features. The iPhone 14 Plus hasn’t received the new “Dynamic Island” notch design like the iPhone 14 Pro, instead sticking with the traditional full notch like the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 13 series before it.

  • The base price for the iPhone 14 Plus is $899 (AU$1,579), which gets you 128GB storage. That’s $100 (AU$180) more than the iPhone 14, but $100 (AU$170) cheaper than the iPhone 14 Pro, and $200 (AU$320) cheaper than the same-size iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Like the iPhone 14 Pro Max, the iPhone 14 Plus has a 6.7-inch OLED display. Unlike the Pro Max though, the regular Max uses the old style of notch, and has a standard 60Hz refresh rate rather than the ProMotion adaptive 120Hz refresh rate the Pro models have. Lacking ProMotion is a big blow for the Max, since most comparable Androids have 120Hz screens. But if you’re already used to non-Pro iPhones, perhaps you won’t mind that this feature is missing.

Beyond that, the iPhone 14 Plus is very familiar, with flat aluminum sides, an alert slider, dual rear cameras, a Lightning port and MagSafe wireless charging. The color options are a little different this year, with your choices being Starlight, Midnight, blue, purple and Product RED.
