New technologies are announced every year. Hastings Police Department is doing its best to keep up with trends and use them to get the job done more efficiently.
Upgrades include the latest in body cameras, cop cars, crime scene gear and more.
HPD Capt. technological advances are proving useful in several areas of the department, from how calls are answered to how cops investigate duty calls and crimes.
It’s not just the upgrades they’ve made in their department that help law enforcement during their shifts every day. “When it comes to using a mobile phone at a crime scene before the police arrive, a witness to the crime can take pictures and videos of what happened before the police arrive on the scene,” Doremus said. “Whether it’s a cell phone, a doorbell, or just a camera in a store or at home,” he said.
“There’s always something new and better,” he noted. “Sometimes we don’t have all the tools at our disposal, due to budget constraints, but for an agency that has many of these tools at its disposal, it’s pretty good.”
Doremus said they try to keep up with the latest technology as much as possible, which is why officers have been able to get faster response times.
HPD is currently working on upgrading to the next generation 911 system. This allows Dispatch to receive both photos and videos via text his messages.
