The fight for gaming licenses by Kindred and Norway could have consequences for the EU as a whole

  • Kindred refuses to give up the ongoing battle with Norway. The gaming company is as far along as it needs to go to continue serving the country and can eventually chart a course for all European operators.

Kindred and Norway have been mating horns for several years now. The country has told operators to shut down Unibet and other brands, but the gaming company refuses.

Even the threat of a multi-million dollar fine wasn’t enough to bring Kindred down. The company has appealed the fine and will continue to operate normally in the country for the time being.

Kindred continues the fight

Officials said Kindred had done nothing wrong under European law. He explained that the company does not offer services in Norway. Instead, “Norwegian customers have the right to gamble on foreign sites if they wish, under a Maltese license under current European business law.”

If Kindred does not withdraw from the Norwegian market within a year, the country notified him a week ago that he could be fined $42.7 million. The company’s CEO, Henrik Tjärnström, responded to the threat late last week and accepted the challenge.

Kindred has defended his position numerous times in Norwegian courts. Even the country’s Supreme Court lost each time.

If it finally finds ears to support its claims, the impact on the entire European gambling industry will be real. and could welcome users anywhere in the EU.

A request for further comment from Kindred is pending. In the meantime, everyone has to take the same stand as Tjärnström and company who want to “wait and see”. Time to redefine the world game

A situation has arisen in New Zealand where online gambling is limited to his two companies, Lotto NZ and TAB. No other company is licensed to offer online gambling in the country. Christchurch Casino, a land-based casino in the city of the same name, has figured out a way around these regulations. the company will seek gaming licenses in Malta through a new partnership. Then New Zealand can’t stop it.
