  • Winglet Technology will add Sovereign+ to its current Cessna Citation Sovereign Winglet Supplemental Type Certificate (STC), as the company (Stand 1828) announced Wednesday at NBAA-BACE 2002. The original Sovereign STC was issued by the FAA in June 2017 and awarded by EASA in April 2020. The company previously said it would add Citation Latitude to his STC.

To date, Winglet Technology has provided over 35 transitional winglet STC kits to his Sovereign customers, both domestically and internationally. “We have had interest in winglets from owners of all product lines, including Sovereign, Sovereign+ and Latitude,” explains Kiser. The revised STC applies to a total jet size of over 700 aircraft.

Sovereign winglets allow the modified aircraft to climb to his FL450, with a maximum takeoff weight of his 30,755 pounds. In addition, the winglets not only allow him to gradually climb from FL450 to FL470, weighing him 3,000 pounds more than the Sovereign without the winglets, but also increase the aircraft’s speed by up to 35 knots at the top of the climb.

Other performance features include improved range up to 340 nm with limited payloads and improved Weight, Altitude, and Temperature (WAT) limits of 8°C or 2,000 lbs at departure altitudes above 5,000 feet . The slope of the second segment improves by 0.5-0.7% at higher mtow. The company also recently announced that it shipped its 100th Citation X Elliptical Winglet Kit. The Milestone Kit was installed by Wichita-based Yingling Aviation, who recently became a certified installer.

Additionally, in 2010, Cessna announced that it had completed the elliptical winglet design for its improved production version, the Citation X+. was selected and will begin shipping in 2014. “For the Citation X with STC, the winglets offer an increased range of 315 nautical miles when the payload is more limited than the Citation X without the winglets,” said Kiser. “The general consensus among Citation X operators is that winglets improve the lateral and directional stability of the aircraft.”

Winglet Technology obtained his STC for the Citation X kit in June 2009 and subsequently in 2010 he received EASA certification.
