An elderly woman was charged roughly $1600 for phone repairs, and the tech provider has come under fire online. An 80-year-old customer of a Queensland IT company received an apology and a nearly $1600 refund after being criticised online for an expensive phone repair. After a man from the Sunshine Coast posted a picture of the invoice his ailing mother received from the store, the retailer came under fire online. The elderly woman’s son turned to Reddit earlier this week to call out what he perceived to be an exorbitant fee, and the Sunshine Coast-based electronics store King IT Caloundra received harsh criticism from commenters.

Highlights

  • “As long as you don’t jailbreak your iPhone and update the operating system regularly, the chances of contracting a virus are low,” tech blog Clario writes. The iOS upgrade however suggests neither the phone nor the iPad had been jailbroken (where software restrictions imposed by the manufacturer are removed). The business took to social media to apologise.
