computer systems being prepared for technology change

  • Cloud systems that reside between cloud apps and hardware devices have not progressed as quickly as cloud applications and hardware devices.

The next-generation cloud system being developed by Weiwei Jia, an assistant professor who started at the University of Rhode Island’s computer science department last autumn, will better support both present and emerging technology.

Systems utilized in the cloud are built for old hardware and legacy applications, he claimed. The requirements of new applications or the capabilities of new hardware devices have not been met by these systems.

create a path for the future

“My discovery opens the door for modern clouds to supply new services and applications.” “The research is useful and has the potential to have a significant impact on society.”

Jia enjoys comprehending, designing, and constructing scalable, potent, and useful computing systems for contemporary clouds and data centers.

An efficient cloud memory management system named GEMINI and the first job scheduler for edge computing, DASEC, are two examples of Jia’s systems that are anticipated to have a big impact.

For a variety of applications, including autonomous robotics and vehicles, online games and stocks, smart home gadgets, Internet of Things services, and augmented reality and virtual reality, DASEC assists edge computing in delivering low reaction times.

The performance of data-intensive applications in virtualized clouds and data centers will be significantly improved by GEMINI. Artificial intelligence, data analytics, and high-performance computing are just a few examples of the data-intensive applications that are widely used today. “In order to compute with high performance, these applications typically require massive computer memory capacity to store their enormous datasets. To effectively store and manage massive datasets, we created GEMINI.

In the near future, a symposium on cloud computing and an international conference on computer systems will feature his GEMINI and Jia work on DASEC. Jia intends to make both source codes available later on so that the general public, academics, and business can all benefit.
