A recent study conducted by researchers from The University of Hertfordshire in the UK has found that gaming apps can help identify navigation-related problems caused by long-term traumatic brain injury (TBI). These issues can be challenging to diagnose and treat, as navigation is a complex process controlled by a network of mechanisms that involve many cognitive processes in the brain. The researchers tested patients’ navigation skills using the Sea Hero Quest mobile game, which was created by game developer Glitchers to help scientists understand how navigational skills differ according to age and gender. This study marks the first time the diagnostic tool has been used in individuals with head trauma. The study was published in the journal PLOS ONE, and the findings could help improve the diagnosis and treatment of TBI patients suffering from navigation-related problems.
